Writer Mode

Writer Mode turns rough work notes into a structured brief before planning or handoff. It helps when the problem, customer request, defect, or follow-up is real, but the description is not ready for someone else to act on yet.

Where Writer Mode is available

Writer Mode is available for active initiatives, bugs, and todos. Completed tasks and triage items do not open Writer Mode.

You can start Writer Mode while creating an initiative. Open Create from anywhere, choose Writer in the create dialog, then describe the work.

For existing initiatives, bugs, and todos, open the detail page or the task more menu and select Enter writer mode. Writer Mode starts from the current title and description, then treats the session as a refinement of existing work instead of a new initiative draft.

How the draft works

Writer Mode asks follow-up questions about the problem, scope, constraints, proposal, and risks. When a question has clear options, the interface can show reply buttons so you can choose instead of typing.

Your answers update one working draft. The draft includes the title and description, and you can edit both directly while the session is open.

Draft changes are saved as revisions. The revision history shows saved versions and summaries of what changed. If the draft changes somewhere else before your local edit is saved, Writer Mode asks whether to use the latest version or keep your changes.

Finish draft

Select Finish draft when the title and description are ready to become the work brief.

Finishing the draft finalizes the writing session and saves the current draft back to the initiative, bug, or todo. After that, the work continues through its normal flow with status, teams, assignees, taxonomy, comments, and related work.

Dashboard and Slack

The same writing session can continue across the dashboard and Slack. That helps when the brief starts in one place but needs more input from another conversation.

Keep the final brief concise enough to scan. Put the decision, problem, proposal, and risk near the top, then move supporting detail into the description or linked Documents.

Writer Mode supports Create your first initiative, deeper bug repair notes, and todos that need more context before handoff or agent work.
